Screen Capture Software - SVSU Staff

There are many types of screen capture software available that allow you to take a screen shot of any image on your screen.  Most of these applications allow you to annotate, copy, save or print images you capture of the screen contents on your monitor. This article lists the screen capture software supported at SVSU and free tool(s) we would recommend. Note: A tool with an asterisk means that there is limited paid licensing. 

ClipChamp (Recommended by ITS)

Available for Windows computers and on the web with your SVSU account. Record your screen, webcam, up to 30 minutes. If you need to make edits to your recording, ClipChamp also has a video editor.

  • SVSU account and personal
  • Included on Windows 11 computers
    • Access on your computer: Click the Windows or Search icon type in Clipchamp then click the app to open it.
    • Click "Sign In with Microsoft"
  • Web app, Chrome and Microsoft Edge latest version (Firefox is not supported).
    • In a Web Browser: Sign into Microsoft 365 using the URL listed above with your SVSU email and password.
    • Login at app.clipchamp.com
    • Click "Sign in with work or school"
  • Includes a video editor
  • Clipchamp: Online screen and camera recorder

Windows Snipping and Capture Tool

Capture a screen shot and annotate content or capture a video (record up to 30 minutes), if you need to make edits select Edit in Clipchamp, (video editor). Clipchamp video editor include basic to advanced editing (e.g., transitions, color enhancing, audio editing, speed control, and more.)

Clipchamp video projects sync with your SVSU account and are stored on your OneDrive.

Important! If you need to record a longer video consider recording content in shorter segments.

Stream

Record your screen and webcam via your web browser, up to 15 minutes. Annotate your screen, apply a virtual background and more.

PowerPoint (desktop app)

Screen share and record your PowerPoint presentation or record a voice over and export as a video that you can share with others.

Note: PowerPoint on the web does not have a screen capture feature, but it allows you to present live presentations. Learn more: "Present Live in PowerPoint."
