Getting Started

Universal Capture Personal software allows you to record personal lectures PC or Mac computer. The software records your entire screen (1 or two screens), your internal or external webcam, and microphone. Content stores in your Library, where you can edit and manage your recording before sharing them in Canvas. 

Helpful tip:
If you don't see Echo360 - Personal available to install on your university computer Windows or Mac or need assistance. Please Create a Ticket so ITS can assist you.

Install Universal Capture on a Windows computer - University Owned

  1. Click the Windows start menu, then search for Software Center.
  2. In the Applications window, look for "Echo360 - Personal."Software Center Windows with Echo360 Capture selected
  3. Click the tile icon to open it.
  4. Click "Install" you can continue working during installation.
  5. When the installation has finished open Universal Capture.

Install Universal Capture on a Mac computer - University Owned

Mac Devices

  •  You can install supported software applications through the software portal for Macs. Learn how to use the SVSU Mac Self Service
  • If you are unable to install the software using "SVSU Mac Self Service," please Create a Ticket and someone from ITS will follow up with you.

Install Universal Capture on a Personal Computer

  1. In Canvas, click on my Echo360 Library (bottom menu of every Canvas course)
  2. Click the "Create" button, and select "New Software Capture."
  3. Next, choose the appropriate for your computer.
  4. Windows Download
  5. Mac Download (there are 2 different installation files, Intel and Apple Silicon, choose what is appropriate for your computer).

  • Windows (64-bit)
  • Mac (OS X 10.14) or higher.

Accessing and Launching Universal Capture - Help Articles

There are three ways to launch Universal Capture Personal software.

  • Inside of Canvas
    • Click MyEcho360 Library, select the "Create" button.
  • Outside of Canvas, go to echo360.org
    • Click the Create Button and click New Software Capture.
  • Open Universal Capture Personal on your computer.
    • Windows:
      • Click the start menu and search for Echo360.
      • Click Echo360 Universal Capture.
      • Login with your SVSU email and Echo360 password.
    •  Mac:
      • Open the Applications menu.
      • Click Echo360 Universal Capture.
      • Login with your SVSU email and Echo360 password.
Helpful tip:
Browser Capture
 is available to use on any computer while online (no software to install), it provides a few methods for screen sharing and provides virtual backgrounds (if your webcam is enabled). Explore detailed steps in our guide: Browser Capture.

Record with Universal Capture Personal

Universal Capture Personal software will record two screens and audio. Additionally, you can record system audio, record offline, and Live Stream your Lecture. Explore Universal Capture - Record on your computer.

Faculty can record their screen and webcam with the web app Browser Capture, it works on any computer with an internet connection. Choose a virtual background when recording with your webcam.
