Install SPSS

  1. Open a web browser and go to the URL, https://appsc.svsu.edu/elms/ .  You may need to authenticate
  2. Note the on-screen instructions.  You must complete all three steps to successfully use SPSS on your computer.
    1. Step 1 Uninstall prior versions of SPSS. Reboot after uninstalling.
    2. Step 2 Download the appropriate installer for your system.
    3. Step 3 **IMPORTANT** Have an email sent with an activation code and installation instructions.

  3. Click Download SPSS Premium for Mac from the panel. The install file will download.
  4. Switch back to the software list panel and click the Send Activation Email button.
  5. Open the email so that it is available when you need to copy and paste the code.
  6. Open the installation file that you downloaded.
  7. Click to install the SPSS statistics application
  8. If prompted that you are sure you want to open the downloaded application from the Internet. Choose open.
  9. Type your password if prompted.
  10. Select the preferred language and choose OK.
  11. Read the licensing introduction and choose next.
  12. Continue reading the licensing agreement and choose, I accept the terms of the license agreement. Then choose next.
  13. Select yes to install IBM SPSS statistics, then choose next.
  14. Continue reading the licensing agreement and choose. I accept the terms of the license agreement. Then choose next and again read the licensing agreement and choose. I accept the terms of the license agreement and choose next.
  15. The application will be installed in a folder called Statistics on your Hard Drive. If you want to change the installation location, select choose otherwise click Next.
  16. Review the installation summary and choose Install.
  17. When the installation is complete, you will be prompted with the option to start the Authorization Wizard.  **IMPORTANT** You need to do this to complete your installation of SPSS and have it work correctly. So be sure to check the box next to start SPSS statistics 26 license authorization wizard.  Then choose done.
  18. A window will open telling you that you are not currently licensed. Choose Next. This is where the email that you requested to be sent to you comes into play.
  19. This is an important step to get your SPSS application working correctly. Select, Authorized user license. I purchased a single copy of the product. Then choose Next.
  20. Open the email that was sent to you and find the code in the email. Select and copy it.

  21. Switch back to the authorization wizard and paste the code in the code field. Do not share the code with anyone. Then choose next.
  22. You will see that the code was processed successfully. Choose Next.
  23. The expiration date for the license is displayed. Choose Finish.
  24.  SPSS has been installed successfully.
  25. There will now be an "IBM SPSS Statistics" folder on your device. This will house the app itself for SPSS, so refer to the following image to know what content is the app itself. 

     Open SPSS Statistics to run the application itself.
     

Save Data Files to a Local Drive

  1. The next step is to make sure that you download and save your course files to a folder on your computer. Your teacher should tell you where your files are located. It is suggested that you download those files to a local drive.  We do not suggest that you double click on the file to open the SPSS application.  Instead, open the SPSS application first, then choose file and open.
  2. To do that, navigate to your applications folder.
  3. Find the folder named IBM.
  4. Open the folder SPSS Statistics to find the SPSS statistics application inside.  Double-click it to open SPSS.
  5. Choose Allow to accept incoming network connections.
  6. Select open another file and then choose open.
