Wix

Wix is a free website builder that allows anyone to build a website. It includes professionally designed website templates and offers full customization.  Create galleries, slideshows, blogs and much more.  Redirect your SVSU web space to the Wix hosted site.

Step One

  1. Go to the www.wix.com.
  2. Create a wix account, or login to an existing one.
  3. View this Wix help page to get started creating your website. Explore their articles to get a more in depth look at what you are interested in and for answers to any questions you may have.
  4. Click on save to save the site, and customize the domain name The URL for the domain reads https://username.wixsite.com/example. From here you can edit the text that reads example to personalize the site name.
  5. Click done, and then publish. 
  6. Now it is time to link the site to your web space. 

Step Two

To connect it to your SVSU web space follow these steps.

  1. Save the file linked in this article, named index.html, to notepad.
  2. On line 5, where it says "yourwebsite.com" change that to the domain name of your wix site starting after the double backslash.
  3. Save this notepad file as a new file titled index.html, index.htm, welcome.htm, or welcome.html.
  4. On your computer, go to vdrive.svsu.edu and log in.
  5. Navigate to your public_html folder by going to Home Folder > public_html.
  6. Once you are in that folder, upload the notepad file you edited earlier.

Step Three

Now, when you go to www.svsu.edu/~(your username here) it will automatically open to the website that you have created!
