Compromised Account

Service Description

If you feel that your account has been compromised, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY  After changing your password, Request Assistance so that Information Technology can review account and take any other necessary actions to protect your data.

SVSU users that respond to phishing scams via e-mail put their SVSU accounts at risk of being compromised, modified, and used for spam delivery - putting the university at risk of being blacklisted.  Sometimes, the user self-reports their error or notices irregularities within their account.  Other times, ITS may discover mass e-mail delivery and identifies the account as having been compromised and sending out spam.

ITS will take action on all compromised accounts by immediately resetting passwords, working with the user to review email account configuration setting for fraudulent settings, scanning SVSU owned devices for malicious software, scanning for sensitive information and checking systems the user has access to.
