GoReact: Faculty Get Started with GoReact

Overview

GoReact enables students to record or upload videos for assessment and feedback. Through its Canvas integration, faculty can create GoReact activities within assignments, review submissions, provide feedback using comments and rubrics, and manage grades all in one place.

Before You Begin

• Your Canvas course must already be created and available.
• Think about whether students will record videos and practice their skills, complete peer reviews, or be assessed using a rubric.

Create a GoReact Activity

Select Assignments in your Canvas course from the course navigation menu. Follow the steps below:

1. Click + Assignment.
2. Enter a name for the assignment. 
3. In the content window, add assignment instructions.
4. Locate the Submission Type drop-down menu and select External Tool.
5. Click Find.
6. Select GoReact LTI 1.3 (prod) from the list of available tools.
7. Enable the checkbox "Load This Tool In A New Tab." Important: This setting is required for the GoReact activity to launch correctly.
8. Click Select.
9. Configure any desired assignment settings, such as the due date and availability dates.
10. Click Save or Save & Publish.

GoReact Account Setup (first-time)

The first time you launch a GoReact activity from Canvas, you will be asked to verify and complete your account setup.

1. After you launch the GoReact Activity in a new window, you will need to verify your account. 
2. Click "Primary Use"(see sample image below).
   
3. Then in the drop-down menu, select the department that best matches your teaching area. This helps personalize your GoReact experience to relevant templates.
4. The phone number field is optional.

Configure the GoReact Activity

GoReact activities are launched through their associated Canvas assignment. To edit settings, review submissions, or grade student work, simply open the assignment from your Canvas course.

1. After creating the Canvas assignment, open the assignment to launch GoReact.
2. Choose the activity type and settings that best match your learning objectives. If you are starting from scratch, click Blank Activity. 
3. Configure the Activity details:
   • Configure the activity settings, including participant rubric, AI assistant, feedback options, add an owner attachment.
   • Set instructions students will see as a check list before they submit their video.
4. Save your settings, click Save and Close.

Top 5 Best Practices

1. Create a practice activity to help students become familiar with GoReact before a major assignment. Provide students with the link to the student tutorials.
2. Use clear assignment instructions so students understand recording expectations.
3. Include information about video length, required content, and grading criteria.
4. Publish assignments and inform students to test their camera and microphone before the due date.
5. Consider using a rubric to provide consistent and transparent feedback.

GoReact Tips

• Mobile recording: Students can use their mobile devices to record and upload videos to the GoReact assignment in Canvas. We recommend to create a practice assignment before using GoReact for a graded activity. See artificial intelligence feedback section below.
• Audio speech to text: The audio speech-to-text on a mobile device for feedback and comments works. It will also work for audio-to-text on your computer.
• Live recording and feedback: Students can record live and login to the activity to provide live feedback. The live review setting needs to be enabled when configuring the GoReact assignment. All comments happen in real time there is no stopping or pausing. Students can  upload a video from their device and post edit or improve the comments afterward.
• AI (artificial intelligence) feedback: Once a student uploads the video or activity, AI will begin providing feedback in ~1 to 2 minutes. To save time reviewing practice speeches, AI can provide feedback without instructor feedback (if you choose) it will coach them on what they did well, and what they could improve. Specific markers can be set up for the AI Assistant to use from categories like Identify Strengths, Identify Areas of Improvement, or Identify General Feedback, etc. See the interactive demos above.
  • AI Assistant markers can be enabled when setting up the activity. Enhancing the feedback with the comment composer can be turned on or off.
  • If you endorse the AI comments (thumbs up or thumbs down) the feedback is received and reviewed by the product team.

• Comments and Feedback: Only owners of content can download comments or videos. Others cannot.

GoReact Student Experience

Students access GoReact assignments directly from the Canvas Assignment. Depending on the settings you choose:

• Record or upload videos using a computer or mobile device.
• Upload previously recorded videos.
• Participate in group recordings.
• Receive rubric-based feedback and comments.
• Review grades and instructor feedback.
