Setting and Removing Personal Pronouns

Overview: Personal Pronouns

Users can set personal pronouns for their account.  Your pronouns will display in Canvas and in the Portal.

Set Personal Pronouns in your SVSU account

To display your Chosen name and set your desired pronoun across your SVSU account, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Portal (my.svsu.edu)
2. Select "Self Service" from the Quick Links menu on the right.
3. Click on your username in the upper right corner, then choose User Profile.
4. Click on "Edit Personal Identity" under your picture.
5. Click the "Preferred Pronoun" drop-down menu and select the desired pronoun, (see sample image below).
6. Click the "Save" button to save your changes.

Turn off Personal Pronouns

If you decide you no longer want personal pronouns to be displayed, follow the same steps below to turn them off:

1. Login to MySVSU Portal (my.svsu.edu)
2. Select "Self Service" from the Quick Links menu on the right.
3. Click on your username in the upper right corner, then choose User Profile.
4. Click on "Edit Personal Identity" under your picture.
5. Click the "Preferred Pronoun" drop-down menu, this time select the blank row at the top, which means your Chosen name is your desired pronoun.
6. Click the "Save" button to save your changes.
