Service Description
VPN (Virtual Private Network) software enables the device to connect to the campus network as if it were on-campus. It helps prevent snooping or hacking of your connection and secures the data transfer between your device and university resources. ITS automatically deploys the VPN software to all laptop devices, to enhance the security of the device and to further protect the connection between endpoints.
Hotels, conferences & events often require special registration or approved access to their network (called a "captive portal"). You must connect to their network prior to the VPN connecting, otherwise the device will not establish a secure connection and will prevent Internet access.
All SVSU Owned laptop devices are required to have VPN software installed, to increase the security of the device and connection to university resources from off-campus.
