Keychain Access is a macOS app that stores your passwords and account information and reduces the number of passwords you have to remember and manage.
On occasion, system password changes can lead to a broken Keychain on a Mac computer. This often occurs when a user bypasses the prompt to update the Keychain password by clicking cancel, or by entering the wrong password.
Resetting your Mac Keychain
- Open Keychain Access, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
- Choose Preferences from the Keychain Access menu
- Click the Reset My Default Keychain button in the preferences window.
- After you enter your new password, Keychain Access creates an empty login keychain with no password
- Click OK to confirm.
- Log out of computer
- Log in to your account using your new password. Your account password and login keychain password should now match again.
