MFA - Change Method to Mobile App

Many people find this to be the easiest method to use and it is the method IT recommends.  You must download and activate the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app on your phone before changing your authentication method to Mobile App.

  1. On your phone, use the App Store or Google Play apps to download Microsoft Authenticator


     
  2. On the computer, log in to mfa.svsu.edu .  If you have already set up your preferred method, you will need to authenticate with your previously chosen method.
  3. Click the Activate Mobile App menu option.
  4. Click the Generate Activation Code button. An activation code and QR Code will appear on your computer screen.
  5. On your phone, open the Authenticator app, tap the + symbol to add your account.

     
     
  6. Tap Work or School Account.


     
  7. Aim the phone camera at the QR code on your screen to scan it.  The activation code will time out after 10 minutes if that time exceeds, you will need to generate another activation code.


     
  8. On your phone, you will see that your account is listed in the Authenticator app on your smart device.  A six-digit code will regenerate every thirty seconds. This means your account is active.
  9. If prompted, tap Approve to approve the sign in.  If not prompted, just continue to the next step.
  10. On the computer, click the Complete Activation button.


     
  11. Click the Change Method menu option.
  12. Select Mobile app from the Method drop-down list.
  13. Click Save.
  14. A confirmation “Your method has been changed.”  will appear.
  15. From now on, when trying to access an SVSU service, a message will appear on the computer screen saying, “For security reasons, we require additional information to verify your account.”  You will receive a notification via the Authenticator app. Choose to Approve the notification.


     
  16. If your device has finger-print or facial recognition, you can take advantage of that feature.  If not, type your four-digit PIN to authenticate.
